Local businesses desperately need support, especially in today’s economy. Many businesses have struggled with the pandemic and are on the verge of closing their doors. Obviously, one way to help local businesses is to “shop local” and do your part, but there are also many ways you can support a local business without spending a dime.

FIVE WAYS TO HELP LOCAL BUSINESSES

Tell friends and family – Word of mouth is an important (and inexpensive) marketing tool. If you like a local business, tell your friends and family about it.

Follow on Social Media – The more follows a company gets on social media, the more organic reach their posts will have. Your friends (and their friends) will have a better opportunity to find that great company you love, and you’ll be helping them out without spending any money.

Engage with posts – The more you share, like, and comment on your favorite company’s social sites, the more people will see them. The algorithms love engagement, so be sure to like and share those posts that catch your eye.

Sign up for newsletters – If you like a business and enjoy seeing what they are offering, consider subscribing to their newsletter (and actually reading it). This will help them get better at marketing their company, and you will probably also see some things that you’d miss elsewhere.

Write a good review – It may sound weird, but companies LOVE getting good reviews. Plus, it increases the social proof that they are a worthy business. If you enjoyed the service at a restaurant or a local service provider did a great job of taking care of you, take 30 seconds to write a thoughtful review of their business. This will help them get more business from people who don’t even know you.

So there you go…five ways to support a local business without spending any money.
